Postdoctoral Diversity Fellowships
The University of New Mexico under the auspices of the
Office for Equity and Inclusion invites applicants for
postdoctoral fellowships. The fellowships will be awarded
to African American, Hispanic or American Indian doctoral
degree recipients whose teaching, research and service
contribute to diversity in any academic discipline.
Doctoral students at the latter stages of their
dissertation completion or recent PhD graduates may apply.
Doctoral candidates must have completed their doctorates
before the award date.
Three (3) awards will be made each year. Postdoctoral
fellows will be appointed for one (1) year with a possible
renewable appointment for a second year, contingent upon
excellence of research produced and funding availability.
The fellowships are designed to enable recent
underrepresented minority PhDs to advance their research
agenda and their academic portfolio while contributing to
diversity initiatives at the University of New Mexico.
Appointees will have a .75 FTE appointment in an academic
department and a .25 FTE appointment in the Office for
Equity and Inclusion for a 9-month period. The
postdoctoral fellowships are intended as a recruitment
strategy of underrepresented faculty. Department Chairs
and Deans are encouraged to nominate individuals whom they
feel might potentially become faculty in their
departments. A letter of nomination from the nominating
Dean and Department Chair must be submitted. Fellows will
receive a stipend of $35,000 per year plus benefits and
research and travel support. Relocation expenses up to
$1,000 will also be provided.
