Dear All,
I am writing with information about an informal training/demonstration day that
I am running for the Catholic Association of Diocesan Archivists on the CALM
for Archives software on Wednesday 10th March.
I still have spaces available for this day and am happy for any Listserv
members to attend. The day is intended for those who have limited or no
experience of the CALM software and would like to know more. An explanation
will be given of what CALM actually is, what you are buying, what you need to
be able to run it, and the theory and principles behind the software. A
practical demonstration will then be given of how to catalogue in CALM, with
examples of both simple and complex databases provided, as well as how to
customize the software. The issues of CALM compatibility with other software
and online catalogues will also be approached.
The day is designed to be very informal with a large degree of scope for
addressing particular concerns of the attendees and an emphasis on questions
and answers. I should make it clear that I am not an employee of DS Calm and
that this day is being held completely independently of them. I have trained
staff on the software and received some professional CALM training but all
information that I provide is from personal experience and use.
The day will take place on Wednesday 10th March, from 11.30am until c.4pm,
at the offices of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales at 39
Eccleston Square , London, SW1V 1BX . There is a charge of £9 per person to
cover the cost of refreshments and a sandwich buffet lunch. Cheques should
be made payable to 'Catholic Trust for England and Wales ' and sent for my
attention to 39 Eccleston Square, although given the late notice of the event
cheques and cash will be accepted on the day.
If you would like to attend can I please ask you to confirm as soon as possible
and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Tamara Thornhill
