Archive cataloguing project internship
Reference No: VINTLDOS052
Location: London (UK Office)
Closing date for applications: 23 April 2010
The British Red Cross is part of the largest voluntary humanitarian organisation in the world. It promotes humanitarian values, and provides emergency help to people in crisis in the UK and overseas. Within the UK, the British Red Cross operates through 34,000 volunteers and 2,500 staff.
The British Red Cross Museum and Archives contain a fascinating portrait of our humanitarian work, from our beginnings in 1870 to our vital contribution in today's society.
During 2010 the Museum and Archives is working on a project to provide online access to our catalogue of artefacts and records and we have an opportunity for an intern to help work on this project. Once the catalogue is available online it will improve access to our collections, but we need to make sure that all of the records that go live are of a high enough standard.
The internship would involve working on the catalogue data for one of our oldest archive collections, the Wantage papers. These fascinating papers are named after our founder Robert Loyd-Lindsay (later Baron Wantage) and document the early activity of the British Red Cross from the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) to the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).
