A question mainly to colleagues working in local authority archives:
Does anyone have a collecting policy that includes accepting 'research
papers'? I am reluctant to take in too many collections of this nature as I fear
we would be inundated with requests from a good many of our researchers to
store their life's work, and whilst I'd like to be encouraging ...I am fearful that
if I do say yes, we will end up taking in, along with research notes, boxes and
boxes of photocopies of documents that we already hold. Does anyone have
any guidelines that can help assess whether to accept such a collection? Does
anyone simply say no? Does anyone have the same problem?
