We are currently advertising for prospective students for the
prestigious Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Structured PhD Programme
based primarily in University College Dublin, Ireland, with some
positions in National University of Ireland Galway and Royal College of
Surgeons in Ireland.
There are excellent postgraduate opportunities for EU resident students
with a good degree in a variety of disciplines to receive an
interdisciplinary 4-year PhD training in Bioinformatics and Systems
Biology, based in Dublin (funded through IRCSET GREP and by SFI).
The project areas span systems biology, regulation of gene expression,
genetic polymorphism, analysis of proteomic, transcriptomic,
metabolomic, glycomic data, protein structural modeling and drug
discovery with funding provided for 11-15 PhD positions, for students
with a strong interest in interdisciplinary training.
Applications are invited from students with backgrounds in various
disciplines, particularly with experience of modeling (e.g. statistics,
mathematics, computer science, chemical engineering, and physics) and
the biological life sciences.
Students will receive a 4-year tax-free stipend of €18,000 p.a., fees,
a generous allowance for PC/laptop purchase, and annual budgets for
laboratory consumables, conferences and publications. Projects will
focus predominantly on computational aspects of biomedicine, but will
also involve wet lab experience and a temporary international placement.
The programme thus offers education in a wide range of skills, from
laboratory to mathematical and computational, as well as international
work experience.
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is the 31st March
2010.
