........ In which case this e-mail is for you.
In the hazy days of late summer of 2009, I had the opportunity to present something on Benford's Law in the ERCIM conference in Limassol, Cyprus. There was a gentleman who had done some work on Benford's Law and was interested in my thoughts as to whether this Law would stand in the Courts of Law. In my application, I had proposed to use Benford's Law to catch the error of the party under suspicion, so to me it did not matter how I found the error, the error itself was the proof that the party was guilty. We discussed this subject in the lift going towards coffee. By this time, this gentleman was disappointed in my apparent lack of favourable response or otherwise and we parted.
I now regret that I did listen to his viewpoint more carefully. There are many other instances the proof might not be as clear as the error(s) I found in my application and in which case(s) the validity of Benford's Law might be essential. My apologies to this gentleman for not responding to his thoughts. I will appreciate a lot if this gentleman and/or others would convey to me their thoughts on this subject. I promise to be more responsive this time around.
