Nathan,
At Northampton we have been using Business Objects for all of our
reporting needs which hasn't, as yet, extended to dashboards, but has
included data warehouse usage. However, we did review last year their
dashboard product which we felt was too complicated to roll-out. We
also reviewed a product called Qlikview which we were very impressed
with and we were very interested to learn that our Business Objects
supplier, CACI, have now taken on the supply of Qlikview within their
product set. We are hopefully going to progress discussions on the
supply of Qlikview this/next academic year.
We haven't used Cognos.
Regards,
Sheryl

Subject: Reporting from multiple systems
Dear All
I've been reading the thread about reporting from multiple systems with
great
interest and would like to canvas sector opinion a bit further. Here at
LSBU
we have invested in Cognos and a data warehouse bringing together a data
set from various sources Student, HR and Estates. We have also recently
completed several projects - annual monitoring and access to learning
operational reporting (not from the Data Warehouse) with relative
success.
The University aim is to provide one reporting system to cover all types
of
reporting - Dash Board, Operational and 'What if' scenarios, however,
currently the majority of operational reporting is performed through
Crystal
Reports. With so much structure and experience already invested in
Crystal
Reports and with the significantly longer development times to build
operational reports within Cognos, our quandary has been whether the one
size fits all approach is realistic. I would like to invite your
opinion and
experience on the following:
Are most institutions looking toward one reporting solution to fit all
reporting
needs and if so has anyone been successful (with which product)?
Is anyone using Cognos for operational reporting? And what has been your
experience.
If you have any questions on the LSBU experience with Cognos data
warehousing / on-demand reporting so far, I would be happy to answer
them.
Kind Regards
Nathan
