Hi Jo-Anne
The Draft Document "Design of accessible housing. Lifetime homes. Code of
practice" has the following to say...........
"In at least one room, normally the living room and/or dining room,
windows should be capable of allowing people to enjoy a reasonable
view below eye level when seated.
To allow a reasonable view from upper floor rooms, or from a ground
floor room onto a terrace or garden where privacy is not an issue, a
window should include glazing that starts no higher than 800 mm above
floor level and also have no transom in a zone between 800 mm and
1200 mm above floor level."
It should be remembered though that any window with a sill level below 800mm
will require safety glass of some sort (eg laminated glass) and guarding may
also be required on an upper floor.
There is also info in the "Lifetime Homes Consultation 2009-10" available

Subject: height of windows in a house
Hi
Does anyone know if there is a difference in the 'standard' height of
windows in a house designed for wheelchair users?
If you could point me to the Building Regs / standards that stipulate
this I would be most grateful
Thanks
Jo-Anne
