I fail to see how a formal application to a world leading university for
support made by me can be furthered by taking the conference elsewhere. It
is discourteous and unethical and will only embarrass me personally with my
employers.

Incidentally I am British \ Australian and have worked in the US where I am
at the moment. I am also an anthropologist.

And I have serious reservations about the figures quoted which look to me
like profiteering. I would urge caution because I do not see altruism here.

Public institutions are supposed to have standards of governance. Mine has
and is following them. You may draw your own conclusions about others.
