A postdoc position is available in the research group of Prof. Michael Thoss at
the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Interdisciplinary Center for Molecular
Materials of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany.
Possible areas of research are:
- Quantum dynamics of charge and energy transfer processes in molecular
systems at metal or semiconductor surfaces (Photoinduced electron and
energy transfer in dye-semiconductor systems with application to organic
photovoltaics, electron dynamics in molecular systems at metal surfaces,
proton/hydrogen transfer reactions at surfaces)
- Quantum transport in molecular nanostructures (Electron and heat transport
in single-molecule junctions, vibronic nonequilibrium effects, molecular
switches)
Possible projects include the development and implementation of theoretical
methods (quantum dynamical and transport methods), the characterization of
specific systems based on electronic structure calculations, the theoretical
analysis of fundamental mechanisms of non-equilibrium processes in complex
molecular systems, the simulation of time-resolved nonlinear spectra as well as
the simulation of experimentally relevant systems.
Some recent papers related to the projects are:
I. Kondov et al. J. Phys. Chem. C 111, 11970 (2007).
J. Li et al. J. Phys. Chem. C 112, 12326 (2008).

The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension upon
mutual agreement. The salary will be according to the German standard (E13).
Applicants should hold a PhD in theoretical physics or theoretical chemistry
and have substantial experience in one or more of the following fields:
quantum dynamics, quantum transport, electronic structure calculations for
extended systems (in particular surfaces) and/or excited electronic states.
Furthermore, programming skills will be of advantage.
Interested candidates are invited to send their application including a
motivation letter, CV, list of publications, a statement of qualifications
relevant for the position, copies of certificates and contact information of two
academic references to the address given below (preferentially by email).
