Dear Chris,
Sorry not to have got back to you earlier - I've been very busy at work. Thankyou very much for these, which I have however seen.
I assume you've got this from the Edgecumbe Papers on A2A - that's where I saw it. I'll be going down to the CRO at some point to have a look at this and several others relating to Cornwall and Devon, though probably not till the Autumn due to work commitments.
Arthur Cake Junr. of Tavistock was probably husband to Mrs Cake, who held quarter shares in the 47 named tinworks on the Devon bank of the Tamar (ref: my lecture last month) in 1778. He was also named several times as an adventurer in the early C18 copper leases in the Bedford Papers in the DRO. He was obviously 'into' mining in the way several local adventurers were, but I had wondered if anyone knew anything about him beyond these references. Mrs Cake's list also mentions someone called Henry Warne (dead by 1778) but I've found no mention of him anywhere, and don't even know if he was recently dead in 1778 or was a much earlier owner of the shares.
Hope you're ok - I noticed you had to leave early and assumed your back had got the better of you?
Robert
