Hi Joe,
Deciphering the script you mention might be rather difficult, try to use
the equivalent Batch Interface with "SPM>Util>Volume of Interest"
instead, see this post:

To answer your other email:
* ....sphere.move.global.spm = 1;
this allows to specify the centre of the sphere to be the global maxima
of an SPM (here the first one in the list), by opposition to giving
fixed MNI coordinates.
* Small Volume Correction is performed in function spm_VOI.m
