The darkness isn’t tiring any more.
It moves in still, like the tide, very smooth,
not holding nutrients; and we lie down,
telling truth, making wholes of each other,
slowly sinking into dead fluid.
That is how the empty do; time on pause,
a slight frame slip allowing an advance
for night to make itself a kind of day –
somehow – one wakes, that is, gets up and sees
with whom the vacancy has been put back,
together once again, alone, human,
surface one recognises, reflecting sad
and accurate images, turned round right way up,
tottered by the dryness of the sure.
