The successful applicants will join our thriving research centre based at the
University of Edinburgh. We undertake social research on families and
relationships across the life-course using both qualitative and quantitative
approaches. Our research programmes encompass diverse themes and inform
policy, practice and debate in Scotland, the UK and internationally. To learn

A choice of projects is on offer
Exploring the processes and outcomes of user engagement linked
to the ESRC Centre for Population Change (+3)
Intergenerational relationships, local cultures and mens orientations
to family formation linked to the ESRC Centre for Population Change (+3)
* Exploring the lives of families with young children over time, using
the Growing Up in Scotland longitudinal study (or you can propose a more
specific topic within of early years, family and policy that exploits the
longitudinal capacity of this study)
* Aging and families and relationships - in particular with an interest
and/or focus on dementia and its impact on families and relationships (or you
can propose a topic within this area)
A sociological study of the development, regulation and use of
medical technologies (relating to health, illness and enhancement) in the
context of human reproduction funded by the Wellcome Trust Strategic
Awards in Biomedical Ethics, in collaboration with the Institute for Science ,
Ethics and Innovation, University of Manchester (+3).
* Available on a 1+3 basis for those who do not already have ESRC recognised
research training at Masters level or on a +3 basis for those who do. Full or
Part time study is available.
Each award covers fees, maintenance and research expenses. Please note
that the ESRC requires that all candidates have established UK residency to
receive the full award. EU applicants normally receive fees only. More

Students should have or expect to obtain a 2:1 or 1st class degree in a social
science subject, a postgraduate qualification with research training (1+3
applicants will obtain this during their first year), have a strong commitment to
postgraduate study in their chosen area, and a willingness to contribute to the
vibrant postgraduate research community at CRFR.
