Subject: Two New Assistant Professor Positions at KTH in Transport Studies
To: "joel.franklin" <[log in to unmask]>

Dear colleagues,

My apologies for cross-posting. I am forwarding here two preliminary
announcements (see below) for newly-created Assistant Professor positions in
Transport and Location Analysis at KTH, Stockholm, Sweden. As yet, the
formal listings have not gone out, but the deadline will be sometime in
March or perhaps April. Once the listings are formally posted, they will
appear at the following web page: http://www.kth.se/om/2.1445?l=en .

These positions come with strong start-up packages, including support for a
PhD student per position and a very good chance for additional research
funding through our Centre for Transport Studies (www.cts.kth.se). The
positions are meant to be filled as soon as practicable, given the time it
takes to go through the applicant review process, but the actual start date
is negotiable.

If you know of any recent PhD students, post-docs, or even young faculty
that might be interested, please pass this on. If they have questions about
the positions, they can contact our Head-of-Division, Anders Karlström,

Best regards,

---Joel

*Position descriptions (be sure to scroll down to see the second one)...*

*Assistant professor in Transport Analysis and Policy*

*Subject field*

Transport Analysis and Policy

*Subject description*

The subject area includes development and application of methods and models
for analysis, evaluation, planning, management and design of the transport
system from the perspective of efficiency and sustainability. Such policies
include investments, economic policies, regulation and organization.
Methodologically, important areas include economic and econometric modeling,
cost benefit analysis, travel demand and assignment models, and methods for
social, economic, environmental and safety evaluation.

*Eligibility requirements*

A requirement for employment as assistant professor is a PhD degree (which
has to be obtained by the application deadline). Those having obtained a PhD
degree not more than five years before the application deadline will have
priority in the selection process. If there are special reasons, also other
applicants may be considered with high priority.

*Assessment criteria*

The candidate's scientific skills are of great importance, documented
through publications in international well-known journals. The candidate's
ability to collaborate and interact with society and communicate research
and development is also of great importance. The ability to establish
independent research and develop collaboration in research and teaching will
be given strong consideration, together with the ability to initiate and
lead research projects. The candidate's ability to contribute with high
quality to the teaching activities to our undergraduate, masters, and
doctoral programmes will also be considered.

*Two-year review*

There will be a half-time evaluation after two years. The purpose with this
evaluation is to support and guide assistant professors from the perspective
of requirements as indicated by the profile, eligibility and assessment
requirements. The purpose is also to inform the assistant professors of
expectations and assessment criteria for promotion to associate professors,
in light of what the candidate has achieved by the time of the half-time
evaluation.

*Assessment criteria for promotion to associate professor*

Evaluation for promotion can occur at any time during employment as
assistant professor. An application normally occurs after the two-year
review and with ample time that the evaluation process can be completed
before the end of the term of employment as assistant professor. A typical
guideline is eight months for the evaluation process.

Toward the end of the employment term as assistant professor, the incumbent
should have established him/herself in his/her area with international
publications and related activities, and have accumulated experience with
obtaining external research financing and advising students, e.g. as
associate advisor for doctoral students.

Other special evaluation criterions include the applicant's ability to
independently establish new collaborations and research initiatives, as well
as demonstrate pedagogical development through educational activities. In
evaluation for promotion, it is especially important that the applicant has
created an independent standing and taken his/her own responsibility in
research, through establishing new collaborations and research initiatives.

For promotion to associate professor, the applicant should also take some
responsibility for undergraduate education and pedagogical development,
including by undergoing advanced courses in pedagogy in higher education.

*Assistant professor in Transport Modeling*

*Subject field*

Transport Modeling

*Subject description*

The subject area includes development and application of quantitative
(mathematical and econometric) models in the field of Transport Science.
Important methodological areas include assignment and travel demand models,
such as activity based models, route choice models, and mode choice models.
Theoretical and methodological development of such models is particularly
important.
