The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology
Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical
service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for
society, economy and science.
For our Department 3.2 "Analytics and Thermodynamic State Behaviour of
Gases" in Braunschweig, we are looking for a
candidate for a doctor's degree
to join us as soon as possible. The post is initially limited to 2 years and
can be prolonged. The tasks are in compliance with the characteristics of
Salary Group IIa BAT; the remuneration will be paid according to the
regulations of the TVöD (85 %).
Tasks:
* Setting-up of a transportable in-situ laser spectrometer for high
temporal resolution proof of water vapour inside a combustion engine by
means of tuneable diode lasers and minimally invasive optics or fibre optics
* Validation of the spectrometer at the humidity standards of PTB
* Work at various motor test beds within the scope of cooperation with
the University of Duisburg/Essen
The objective of this work is, on the one hand, the investigation of the
fundamentals of high-pressure spectroscopy of water vapour. Furthermore, the
novel laser spectrometer - an innovative and efficient tool for the direct
optimization of combustion in engines and exhaust recuperation - is to be
made available to engine developers. The work will be carried out in close
coordination with the automotive industry.
Requirements:
