The ESRC has funded a major research project into Poverty and Social
Exclusion in the UK. This project is a collaboration between the University
of Bristol and University of Glasgow, Heriot Watt University, Open
University, Queen’s University (Belfast), University of York, the National
Centre for Social Research and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research
Agency. The University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Qualitative Researcher
to work on this project.
Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator, and in
collaboration with Co-Investigators, you will be responsible for the
delivery and implementation of the qualitative pilot work, and will assist
in the subsequent analysis and dissemination of results. Delivering these
responsibilities will include organising and facilitating focus groups
sessions, conducting one-to-one video interviews and cognitive interviews,
analysis and writing up of research results, attending meetings with
research stakeholders, and contributing to other dissemination activities.
You will assist with the building and maintenance of the project website
and liaise with the web development team at the Open University. You will
also help to update the relevant web pages at the University of Bristol.
An experienced postdoctoral researcher, you should have a relevant
postgraduate research qualification or equivalent research experience. You
will have good ICT skills, a thorough understanding of qualitative research
methodologies and their applications in poverty and social exclusion
research, experience in conducting focus group and one-to-one interviews
and experience of organising qualitative research projects. You will also
have a good familiarity with computer-assisted qualitative data analysis
packages, and experience in the applications of cognitive interviewing,
and/or biographical approaches.
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent
contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research
