Hi folks,
we've had a request from the Principal's Office to move all University
events into a central, online calendar. So we're in the process of
evaluating our options.
The University Web Developers <uwebd /> calendar group on Ning has a nice
disambiguation about calendars:
http://cuwebd.ning.com/group/calendars/forum/topics/1763934:Topic:11671
=== QUOTE ===
Calendaring can be roughly divided into four areas:
1. Public events calendaring
2. Personal events management (PIM)
3. Group calendaring (e.g. scheduling meetings)
4. Resource scheduling (e.g. room and AV scheduling)
=== END ===
We're talking about #1 Public events calendaring: the ability to submit an
event to a public calendar which is categorised and can be output in XML
format and iCalendar.
We're currently using a home-grown solution, hand-coded by our very own Dr
Stephen Evans using a combination of TERMINALFOUR Site Manager (eForm to
submit events which are then published out) and PHP (which scoops up the
data and manipulates it
on the page). But at the moment it doesn't output events in XML or
iCalendar format.
We've already looked at Columba Systems (http://www.columbasystems.com/)
which looks pretty perfect for our needs. I know that Manchester and UCL
are using Columba too.
Are you using an online events calendar? If so what is it? Does it support
outputting events in XML or iCalendar formats?
Thanks
Gareth
