A cloud of tiny green insects went with me round the lake
making the morning walk less than idyllic.
The midday outing for sushi on the food-hall terrace
involved a long conversation between our young dog
and an elderly miniature pinscher from Hong Kong
according to its owner, a retired businessman
who grew up on the Monterey Peninsula
when America was a great place to be in.
Can't stand it now. Waiting for Canberra
to decide he and his Chinese partner
can have permanency. They've spent a million
building here to prove their eligibility.
If turned down, they'll have to try New Zealand,
but their elderly pinscher mightn't survive the move.
The evening sky raised above the western horizon
a lethargic lemon sliver of new moon.
