Dear all,
The February edition of the NRICH website is now live at
http://nrich.maths.org
This month we explore an interesting new problem concept where tasks are
broken down into linked mathematical activities which naturally provide
the insights which will enable you to tackle more significant
challenges. This encourages a collaborative way of working on
mathematics where the sharing of ideas and results leads to deeper
insights for all.
On the wider NRICH site the KS1 and KS2 mapping documents have been
update. Please visit http://nrich.maths.org/curriculum
Finally, NRICH is delighted to confirm the appointment of our new
Project Director Lynne McClure. Lynne will be joining the NRICH team
towards the end of March. Lynne will co-direct NRICH alongside Jenny
Piggott until Jenny's retirement in mid May.
*In other news of interest:*
On Monday Feb 15th BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour is having a special issue on
maths, with discussions about ability grouping, gender, parental
involvement etc.
On Wed Feb 17th, from 7-8.30, Professor Jo Boaler will be speaking at
the Royal Institution, as part of their Faraday lecture series. The
title is Maths Education: Does it add up?
She will share some surprising research results and videos of students,
to reveal the huge gap between the way maths is taught in schools and
the ways it should be taught. She will also explain why women and girls
are often disadvantaged in maths classrooms. This will be a multi-media
presentation with responses from leading figures in education,
entertainment and politics.
