Dear List,
I'm trying to find a bit more about the above person, who seems to have been a tailor in the Tavistock area between about 1710 and 1740. He had shares in a number of tin and copper mines in West Devon and East Cornwall and is mentioned as an adventurer in several of the early C18 Bedford Estate copper leases.
His father, also called Arthur Cake, was a fellmonger (he prepared hides for the tanners) in Tavistock and probably a farmer in Peter Tavy parish circa 1700.
Anyone got any ideas?
Robert Waterhouse
