Dear colleagues
The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, in partnership with University of Cambridge International Examinations and Chatham House,
is organising a student conference on 12 March 2010 at the influential Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, offering
students a great opportunity to gain access to one of the world's renowned international institutions and learn more about China.
On 12 March between 2-4pm, four China experts will present papers on Chinese history, China and the city and the Chinese economy written
especially for secondary school students. These papers will correspond to topics on the Cambridge Pre-U Mandarin Chinese syllabus and provide
an ideal starting point for students of Cambridge Pre-U. Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit questions to a panel of experts.
These experts will include:
Kerry Brown - Senior Fellow on the Asia Programme at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House
Rana Mitter - Professor of the History and Politics of Modern China at the University of Oxford and author of Modern China: A Very Short Introduction
Jasper Becker - author of Hungry Ghosts, publisher of Asia Weekly magazine and former foreign correspondent at The Guardian
James Kynge - editor of China Confidential at the Financial Times and author of China Shakes the World

The event costs £7.50 per person and copies of each of the papers will be circulated to participating schools electronically before the event
with paper copies available on the day for all the attendees.
