My name is Rebecca Bartlett and I am currently in my second year of a
distance learning course in Information and Library Management through
Northumbria University.
I am currently doing my dissertation on the role of the academic librarian in
combating internet plagiarism and am looking for some academic librarians to
assist in a study of this. I am hoping to obtain some opinions and feedback
from academic librarians towards the view expressed in some literature that it
it their role/responsibility to instruct students on what constitutes plagiarism,
correct referencing and citation procedures etc; and for evidence of their
personal involvement in producing guidelines/information for
websites/participating in tuition/training for students and for
feedback/assessment of this instruction.
If you are able to assist I would be very grateful if you could let me know and
then I will be in touch in the near future with fuller details of the study and a
likely timescale. If you are able to assist it is anticipated the study will
consist of an initial round of open ended questions which participants will
respond to, followed by a period of time when I analyse the responses from
the first round of questions, then a second round of questions relating to the
data obtained from the first round. All communication will be through email
and confidentiality and anonymity will be guaranteed.
If you are unable to assist with the study but would be available for a pilot
study to ensure the questions are not ambiguous or misleading then I would
be very grateful for that also.
Many thanks in advance and best wishes.
Rebecca Bartlett
