CALL FOR PAPERS AND PARTICIPATION
Symposia on Health Systems, Health Economies and Globalisation: Social
Science Perspectives
2-3 July 2010, London, UK
4-5 Nov 2010, New Delhi, India
King’s College London, in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru University,
New Delhi (Centre for Social Medicine and Community Health) and LSE Health,
invites abstracts for the first of two symposia, and expressions of interest
for participation in either registration-only event.
The first symposium, hosted by the London partners on July 2nd & 3rd in the
New Academic Building, London School of Economics and Political Science,
will bring together scholars and researchers across a range of social
science disciplines, and users of such research, who are interested in the
challenges faced in researching globalisation, health systems and health
economies. It aims to identify recent advances in concepts and innovations
in research approaches. Provisional (but not exhaustive) themes:
• Globalisation and health: research challenges & disciplinary perspectives
• India’s changing health landscapes
• Cross-boundary health systems
• Health inequalities and globalisation
• Globalisation and commercialisation of healthcare
• Health technologies and the politics of globalisation
Abstracts (300words) are invited by 29th March 2010 to Dr Susan F Murray,
Reader in International Healthcare, King’s College London, to be sent to

Papers may report specific research findings, synthesise literatures, or
consider specific issues of design or conceptualisation. Studies relevant to
India are particularly welcome. All contributors should attempt to draw out
the contribution that their paper makes to the advancement of social science
methodologies, as well as to identify any health policy implications.
