Dear colleagues,
Please make any suitable candidates aware of the following:
AHRC POSTGRADUATE STUDENTSHIP
European Language and Culture Award
Applications are invited for a three-year studentship in the Department of
European Studies and Modern Languages at the University of Bath, funded by
the Arts and Humanities Research Council as part of the Block Grant
Partnership Scheme. The Department is seeking a high quality candidate with
a good undergraduate degree in a relevant field, and preferably also a
Masters degree (completed or near completion). The candidate will have the
opportunity to conduct research to doctoral level on an aspect of
contemporary cultural production in Europe: this might include an
investigation of literature or cinema, but also of other media and cultural
forms. Applications from candidates who wish to pursue interdisciplinary
approaches are particularly welcome. The successful candidate will be able
to work in the culture of one or more European countries where the
following languages are spoken: French, German, Italian, Russian and
Spanish. Comparative projects which engage with the culture of more than
one country are actively encouraged.
The Department has a range of supervision expertise (see
http://www.bath.ac.uk/esml/research/) but would particularly welcome
proposals for doctoral projects which address one or more of the following
topics: cultural memory and identity; cultural constructions of space and
place; cultural constructions of gender; cultural responses to issues
around conflict and security; cultural responses to environmental
challenges. Applicants are advised to discuss their application with a
potential supervisor as soon as possible.
