Mike,

Whilst I take the original poster's points about the lack of respect for the lives of disabled people (and I am one) and believe PASSIONATELY that we should be able to live before we die, I have read that this person, however unfortunate and wrong this may sound, wanted to die.

Yes, it could've been his state of mind at the time, but they had a pact, apparently, that should "the pain get really bad, and nothing can be done, don't let him linger on".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/england/nottinghamshire/8519681.stm

OK, we only have Gosling's word for it, but even so, we can't tar everyone with the same evil brush.

I'm not an apologist, but it does sound like this guy's wish was to die.

Helen

I am not generally in the habit of cross-posting messages between lists,
especially where there is known to be some overlap between such lists. I
hope therefore that I can be forgiven for doing so in this instance, in
light of the importance of the below message from the UK list DANMAIL, the
email community of activists involved in and supporting the Disabled
People's Direct Action Network.

.. and the media of promoting euthanasia, resembling Nazi propaganda which
led to mass extermination in the last century.

I just received a furious message from actor Nabil Shaban, best known to the
public for playing Sil in Dr Who. Nabil is better known amongst activists as
a ferocious advocate against war and for disability equality, in particular
the right to live in equal status to others:

"Nabil Shaban ACCUSES the British media, and that includes the BBC, of
pursuing an identical propaganda exercise as Doctor Josef Goebbels with his
notorious pro-"Mercy Killing" movie "I Accuse", as preparation for public
acceptance of State-sanctioned euthanasia. Ray Gosling was not brave, he is
a murderer and by bragging about it on air, he is putting disabled people
and ill people's lives at risk."
Nabil, like myself, is desperate for someone to take notice of what
disability rights activists have to say on this matter. As regular readers
of my blog will know, I think it does seem that the British media are
determined, in the main, to promote the acceptability of killing sick and
disabled people. The Independent has been the only newspaper with anything
like balance in it's comment. Mostly, killers have been lauded as heroes and
victims. Ray Gosling is the latest example in a busy month of it and my
fingers are getting sore from complaining.

Nabil is right, as I have previously referenced, that this current British
media drive resembles closely the propaganda that persuaded German families
in the 1940's that they would be helping the state and their defectives by
killing them off. In 1941 a pro euthanasia propaganda film was released "Ich
Klage an!", or "I accuse!", which was broadcast in cinemas across the
nation. It tells the story of a young woman suffering from multiple
sclerosis. After much soul-searching, her husband, a physician, kills her as
a fellow doctor plays soft music on a piano in a nearby room. It's a
beautiful piece of historic film which had murderous intent and
consequences.

The Nazi drive of killing off 'useless eaters' began with killing disabled
children (see Barry Seddon's film below) in a similar fashion to how we in
Britain these days abort disabled fetuses any time before birth. Eventually
disabled and sick people were rounded up for live medical research and mass
killing and the Nazis used them to perfect the methods they would go on to
use to murder Jewish people, gypsies, queers and anyone else they didn't
consider a healthy worthy German.

The common image used on nazi propaganda posters is healthy citizens
carrying, or wear, the sick and disabled and other 'racially' impure people
on their backs - often displaying the presumed cost to each German citizen
for 'allowing' such people to live. Burden on families and the state ring
any bells? Who's going to pay for Gordon Brown's proposed free care for the
elderly.. anyone?

People rarely mention though that the Nazis were only working on ideas which
originate from British and American eugenic theory. I've seen reported twice
in recent years that the British Eugenics Society no longer exists, but in
fact all it did was change its name to The Galton Institute (after Francis
Galton, 'Father of eugenics' - British). If you check out their website you
can see the language of eugenics has changed in order to disguise itself and
now they talk of reproductive medicine. The basic theory remains that they
wish to improve humanity by interfering with human reproduction, on a global
scale, which appears racist.

The voices of most disabled and sick people continue to be squashed in
mainstream reporting, in preference for suicidal role models. Today's Indie
title made me feel physically sick

"Matthew Norman: Welcome back, Ray Gosling - the voice of humanity. The
broadcaster committed a noble act of civil disobedience - as well as of
mercy."
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/matthew-norman/matthew-norman-welcome-back-ray-gosling-ndash-the-voice-of-humanity-1901547.html

I consider this hate speech which promotes killings of some of society's
most vulnerable people. 'Civil disobedience'? Is that what journalists
regard deliberate killing as now? I am involved in a network which does
civil disobedience and I can tell you quite categorically that should we
choose to murder someone we think doesn't deserve to live in the process, it
would be considered a crime, we'd be immediately arrested and prosecuted -
possibly even if we were to suggest they should be murdered.

I, for now, just feel grateful that the Indie is listing me on syndicated
blogs so I hope that at least a few hundred of the several hundred thousand
readers will come across another viewpoint (please share my blog if you can,
even with just one other interested person - lets make it double).

Why is nobody shocked that nearly all of the recent media reporting
concerning people who have deliberately killed disabled (or sick) people has
been in support? Would the public feel the same if these were promotions of
killing people of a particular racial background, sexuality, or gender? Why
is this acceptable? It's a disgrace!

Activists continue to protest this but we go almost unheard. If this is not
deliberate, if there is no plan, why is it happening, what is ailing the
British public that they cannot see what is going on? Why are our lives
considered less worthy?

For goodness sake, this directly validates discrimination and murder!

Let us live!
