Linda et al
I agree with you. I made a complaint to EHRC on this matter only this week under the UN Disability Convention ( s4.3):-
DAN, 'grassroots' DPO's and Allies notes that the government has patently failed to abide by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN Disability Convention) which was ratified by the UK on June 8th this year.
Section 4.3 of the Convention states;
“In the development and implementation of legislation and policies to implement the present Convention, and in other decision-making processes concerning issues relating to persons with disabilities, States Parties shall closely consult with and actively involve persons with disabilities, including children with disabilities, through their representative organisations”.
No such involvement has taken place in regard to the drafting of this Act with DAN, DPO's and Allies. There has been no significant consultation and involvement of DAN and our DPO's, and allies as Linda rightly states.
DAN and the 'grassroots' DPO's and allies are not having our voices heard and the 'pro-suicide' lobby (Purdy and co) are receiving a disproportionate level of media attention and this is a breach of basic human rights and civil liberties and 'our' voices are not being heard at all.
You all need to ring the EHRC and make complaints to them and follow up and support my complaint. You need to speak with Neil Crowther, Nonie Benson and/or David Reilly at the EHRC.
