I'm a journalist at the Guardian newspaper looking into how terrorism is
taught in universities, the restrictions and difficulties placed on
lecturers, and attempts by the government to monitor and combat 'extremism'
among students. My net is wide, so I'd be grateful for any information on
any of the above.
In particular, I'm keen to hear from anyone who has hosted an Act Now event,
at which counter-terrorism police talk to students about their work - it is
part of the Prevent campaign. This is now a national scheme, and I'm told
those lecturers who teach in the field are the most likely to be approached
to facilitate one of these events. The approach by police and their teaching
materials have prompted a mixed, sometimes hostile reaction.
Feel free to contact me in confidence on either of the numbers below, or by
email.
