Final Call for Papers: RGS-IBG Annual International Conference, London, 1-3
September 2010
EDUCATION GEOGRAPHIES
Sponsored by the Geographies of Children, Youth and Families Research Group
Deadline: Friday 12th February 2010
Education Geography is a rapidly growing subfield and an exciting area of
new geographical research. In the proposed sessions, we hope to bring
together researchers studying education geographies at all levels, from
pre-school through school, college and university to adult education, in a
range of international contexts. It is hoped that the sessions will engage
with important nuances relating to the diverse discourses around schooling
and education, acknowledging the role of young people, parents/guardians
and other 'gatekeepers' associated with such experiences, as well as the
procedures involved in the creation and implementation of education policy.
We particularly encourage papers that discuss the contribution that
geographers can make to the study of education policy and practice, around
the following themes:
* Education policies and their uneven impacts
* Inclusion and exclusion in educational spaces
* The influence of place on educational attainment, aspiration and overall
educational experiences
* Governance and power in educational contexts
We welcome papers based upon a variety of methodological approaches, as
well as reflections upon the specific opportunities and challenges that face
geographers who study educational issues.
If you are interested in joining this series of sessions, please send a
copy of your abstract to BOTH of the co-organisers (Kirsten Purcell
[[log in to unmask]] and Kathy Reilly [[log in to unmask]]) NO LATER
than Friday 12/02/2010. When submitting your abstract please ensure you
include: your name, institutional affiliation, contact email, title of
proposed paper, abstract (no more than 250 words) and any technical
requirements.
