Dear All,
It is very easy to criticise the tangled language of the document
under discussion. I do think the challenge is to write something
better, based on the intimate knowledge of dealing with people
who either have asked for help or help has been recommended for them
or to them, on some mental health issue.
As I wrote to Michael Gopfert, a British friend living in the USA
commented on the use of the term
"pastoral care" in schools in the UK, as it is not found in schools
in the USA apparently, but only in churches. A "pastor" in Greek
was the term for a shepherd, who tends for those not able fully to
tend for themselves. In a minor way, I think this points to the same
issues. If what is being done is at least partly appropriate, there
should be some more felicitous language to express it. Why not
offer an improvement?
