Job Description
Main purpose of the job:
Applications are invited for a Lecturership in Roman History/Latin Literature in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Exeter. Applicants should have a PhD in Latin literature or a Roman historical subject, a strong research record, and the ability to teach Latin texts in the original language at BA and MA level (the ability to teach Greek texts is desirable but not essential). The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching in the areas of Roman history, Roman historiography, and/or Latin literature, to contribute to the MA pathway in Roman myth and history, and to offer research supervision in areas related to his or her major research interests.
Main duties and accountabilities:
* Contribute to the department?s teaching programme at UG and PG level.
* Provide research supervision for postgraduate students at PhD level.
* Initiate and seek funding for independent and team research programmes.
* Generate international quality publications.
* Contribute to the administration of the department in ways consistent with the main duties of the appointment

Person Specification:
* Completed PhD, in Classics, Ancient History or a related field
* Research publications or evidence of strong publishing potential

Additional Information Relating to the Post
Salary
The starting salary will be on Grade F, £31,671 to £35,646 per annum, points 32 to 36, subject to knowledge, skills and experience. Progression beyond these points is subject to performance in the role.
An increment will be payable on 1 August each year until the top of the scale is reached (subject to being in post for 6 months and satisfactory performance).
The scale will be subject to a cost of living review each year.
