Unique oportunity for a permanent position as platform manager at the
Biomolecular Research Laboratory
-------------
The Paul Scherrer Institute is with 1300 employees the largest research
centre for the natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland and a
worldwide leading user laboratory. Its research activities are
concentrated on the three main topics of solid-state physics, energy and
environmental research as well as human health.
The Laboratory of Biomolecular Research (BMR) at the Paul Scherrer
Institute (PSI) has a cloning and protein expression screening technology
platform for eukaryotic and prokaryotic protein production. This platform
aims at supporting the biophysics and structural biology projects from
both internal and external project partners. The facility consists of a
Tecan Freedom Evo II liquid handling workstation and protein purification
and characterization equipment. Crystallization robots and automated
imaging systems complement the platform. For further information on our
Laboratory, see http://lbr.web.psi.ch/

particular by extending it to screening membrane protein expression in
collaboration with experienced membrane biologists. You will lead this
core facility and be responsible for the management and execution of
collaborative projects and for the further development of key
technologies. You will be responsible for platform staff members
consisting of a senior scientist, molecular biologist, a biotechnology
engineer and a technician. You are expected to initiate and coordinate
external collaborations.
Your profile
You hold a PhD in molecular biology and/or biochemistry. You have a proven
track record of practical experience in both disciplines as well as in
automation and high throughput technologies either in academia or in
industry. Experience with membrane proteins would be an additional bonus.
Practical experience with technical, personnel and in the management of a
core facility related to automated cloning, protein expression,
purification and crystallization is highly desired. Proficiency in written
