CALL FOR PAPERS
REFLECTIONS, RELEVANCE AND CONTINUITY: CARIBBEAN AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES OF BLACK POWER
This year is the 40th anniversary of the Black Power Revolution in Trinidad and Tobago. Black Power has been praised and criticized but few have properly analyzed its global impact. The Black Power movement also produced such charismatic leaders as Stokely Carmichael in the United States.
The 40th anniversary of the Black Power uprising in Trinidad and Tobago will be commemorated with an international academic conference to be held at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, (West Indies) during Saturday 18th September to Sunday 19th September 2010.
The academic conference is being organized by the Department of History at St. Augustine. Co-sponsors include the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies and the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (both at St. Augustine campus). Other supporting organizations in Trinidad and Tobago include the National Joint Action Committee, History Society (at UWI), Emancipation Support Committee and the Public Services Association.
