Dear Mire Group members
Brassey mire is a very small and rare example of bash rich M22 mire in the
Windrush valley of the cotswolds. The Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust manages
it as a nature reserve. After much dedicated pulling to remove invasive
monkey flower, attention is now being focused on how to monitor the site's
water levels to assess whether the site is drying out or not (scrub invasion
suggests it is) to inform an appropriate management regime.
I have been tasked by the Trust to devise a monitoring programme for water
levels and vegetation on the site. I don't need to tell the group that
hydrology is complex and I as I am primarily a zoological ecologist
interested in biodiversity assessment, I would most warmly welcome advice
from members of the group.
Perhaps if you are in a position to advise, you could email me directly (or
as well), as I am just piggybacking on this group as a cunning means of
getting help.
Many thanks
Dr Kathy Meakin
