Hi folks:
After several years of sweating out (and having to look up) the long,
long URL of the Traditional Ballad Index, I realized there are a couple
of sites, Snipurl and Tinyurl, both forwarding services that now allow
you to create named (rather than random) forwarding addresses. So here
are two new, easier ways to get to the Ballad Index:
www.tinyurl.com/balladindex
www.snipurl.com/balladindex
Either one will get you there as long as the forwarding site stays open
-- and they've been there and stable for several years now. If you're
citing the Index in an academic publication or using it in a formal
academic context, it'd still be good to use the long form:
www.csufresno.edu/folklore/BalladIndexTOC.html
That assures that readers will still be able to find your citation in
the event the forwarders disappear. But for daily use, and telling
people about the Index, the Tinyurl and Snipurl addresses work fine.
Peace,
Paul
