Subject: Scholarship Opportunities at the White Rose East Asia Centre
Dear colleague,
The White Rose East Asia Centre is able to offer two ESRC funded
scholarships in East Asian Studies. The first, based at the University of
Sheffield, is for 3 years for a PhD in Japanese Studies. Please contact
Professor Glenn Hook ([log in to unmask]) or Professor Hugo Dobson
([log in to unmask]) for further details. The second, based at the
University of Leeds, is for a two year programme of MA studies in the area
of Chinese Studies. This could be for a taught MA followed by a research MA
or two years of taught MA studies. Please contact Dr Heather Zhang
([log in to unmask]) or Jenni Rauch ([log in to unmask]) for further
information. Details of both scholarships are also available at

applications 12 March 2010
The University of Leeds is also able to offer an AHRC scholarship under the
Research Preparation Master’s Scheme. This scholarship supports students
undertaking Masters’ courses that focus on advanced study and research
training explicitly intended to provide a foundation for further research
at doctoral level. Awards are normally for one year's full time study or
two years' part-time study. Please contact Dr Heather Zhang
([log in to unmask]) for more information. Deadline for applications: 31
March 2010.
The Universities of Leeds and Sheffield are also interested in hearing from
candidates interested in applying for the ESRC open competition +3 or 1+3
scholarship in the field of East Asian Studies. For further information,

Eligibility
For all the above awards, UK students will be eligible for a full award,
covering academic fees at the UK/EU rate and a maintenance grant. EU
candidates will be eligible for an award paying academic fees only, except
in exceptional circumstances or where residency in the UK has been
established for more than 3 years immediately prior to the start of the
