Call for applications Junior Professor (W 1), Didactics of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCAFL) Faculty of Humanities, Göttingen University, Germany
The Faculty of Humanities at Göttingen University invites applications for a junior pro-fessorship (W1) in the Didactics of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (starting date 1 October 2010), to further develop the University?s profile in Chinese Studies. Duties include program leadership in the newly established BA and later also Master programs in Chinese as a Foreign Language, offered by Göttingen University from 2010-2011. The successful candidates will either have a PhD degree in TCAFL or in other relevant disciplines (e.g. linguistics focusing on Chinese) or fields (e.g. Chinese Studies with a specialization in linguistics or the didactics of foreign language teaching) and possess abundant, well-documented experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. In research the junior professor will focus on the innovative didactic concepts of teaching Chinese as a foreign language with special attention to multilingual and intercultural conditions of language acquisition in the context of German high school education. Fluency in German and modern standard Chinese (Mandarin) is required. Open to close cooperation with relevant educational institutions in Germany and with colleagues and institutions in the field of Chinese Studies at Göttingen University such as the recently established Centre for Modern East Asian Studies, s/he will develop the didactics of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Preference will be given to team-oriented candidates able to further synergies at Göttingen University and to develop the close cooperation with Chinese partner institutions. Getting appointed to a junior professorship is based on the conditions set out in § 30 of the Law for Higher Education of the State of Lower Saxony (NHG). Particulars will be explained upon inquiry.
