Tasglann nan Eilean Siar is a new three-year archives project, part-funded by
the European Regional Development Fund, that aims to enhance the
preservation, accessibility and presentation of the unique cultural and social
history of the Outer Hebrides. The project will undertake actions to support
management, awareness and access to the archive collections in the Outer
Hebrides. This is a challenging project with a high level of public interest.
The Project Manager will be based in Stornoway Library and will be supported
by a Project Assistant and Gaelic-speaking Graduate Trainee Archivist.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to increase the level of
professional support and advice available to public agencies, businesses and
the community cultural and heritage sector in relation to archives and to
develop a Hebridean Archives brand which will be a catalyst for cultural and
ancestral tourism and academic research, generating economic growth and
employment opportunities.
You will manage and lead on all aspects of the project including developing
and managing project activities, staff and budget, in order to achieve project
targets. The purpose of the post is to develop the strategic vision, policies
and procedures for an Archives Service for the Outer Hebrides, working closely
with other partners and organisations throughout the islands, as well as
national sector partners and EU funders.
You will be a professionally qualified archivist, with significant experience of
working with other authorities’ archives and records management systems. A
current driving licence is essential.
Fixed term contract for three years.
