Contract position in Department of Anthropology and Archeology,
University of Pretoria, Republic of South Africa 

Applications are invited for a contract appointment from 1 June 2010 to
31 December 2013 in Anthropology at Senior Lecturer / Lecturer level in
the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of
Pretoria.

Duties: 
Senior Lecturer: 
● Teaching, curriculum development, and coordination of programmes at
both undergraduate and postgraduate level 
● Supervision of postgraduate students on masters and doctoral level

● Academic administration and other duties as determined by the Head
of Department 
● Participation in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating
to teaching, research, and community engagement
 
Lecturer: 
● Teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level 
● Supervision of postgraduate students up to master’s level 
● Academic administration and other duties as determined by the Head
of Department 
● Participation in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating
to teaching, research, and community engagement 

Minimum requirements: 
● Senior lecturer: a Doctorate in Anthropology 
● Lecturer: a Master’s degree in Anthropology 
● A proven research and publications track record 
● Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels 
● Good verbal and written communication skills 
● Good interpersonal and mentoring skills 
● Knowledge and experience of Medical Anthropology and/or Visual
Anthropology, and/or Cognitive Anthropology will serve as an advantage 

Remuneration package: 
● Senior Lecturer: between ZAR258 876 and ZAR332 802 
● Lecturer: between ZAR222 786 and ZAR294 966
