Research Associate in Disease Prevention Modelling
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Department working on a study funded by the National Prevention Research Initiative (NPRI). This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary research team working on a novel research project to model the long-term costs and outcomes of lifestyle disease prevention interventions in primary care. The project aims to understand the potential long-term effects of interventions to modify diet and physical activity in primary care. The project will construct a model of the long-term costs and outcomes of interventions in primary care. The model will be informed by systematic literature reviews to provide evidence of intervention effectiveness. Key inputs to the model, including measures of disease occurrence, will be obtained through analysis of electronic patient records from primary care, contained in the General Practice Research Database (GPRD). A Markov model will be constructed with the aim of providing researchers and health decision-makers with estimates of the cost-effectiveness of implementing long-term pragmatic behavioural interventions to modify diet and exercise in primary care. The postholder will contribute to systematic reviews, and analysis of GPRD data, as well as leading the development and evaluation of the disease prevention model.
The successful candidate will have strong quantitative skills in health economics and/or epidemiology and/or medical statistics; experience in using statistical packages such as Stata; experience using modelling software including Excel or TreeAge; as well as excellent written and oral communication skills and experience of research. The candidate will understand the principles of health economic evaluation and will have knowledge and experience of modelling techniques.
The research will be suitable either for candidates who wish to pursue postdoctoral research or who wish to register for a PhD.
The post is available for 3 years. Starting salary will be £32,917 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
