Research Assistant/Associate in Genetic Statistics/Epidemiology
MRC Centre for Causal Analyses in Translational Epidemiology
Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol
(Ref no:15283)
We are seeking to appoint a talented and able medical
statistician/epidemiologist to contribute to genetic analyses, including
genome-wide association studies on participants in the Avon Longitudinal
Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) and other cohort studies held at the
MRC CAiTE/Department of Social Medicine. The post holder will complete
statistical analyses and contribute to writing papers for journal
publication. Approximately 50% of the time will be concerned with
genome-wide and Mendelian randomization analyses that will (where
appropriate) provide the candidate to take a lead role and obtain first
author papers. The other 50% will be providing genetic statistical support
to key collaborators with ALSPAC and for this work the successful applicant
would be co-author (as appropriate) but not be leading the work.
Analytical approaches will include generalized linear regression, genome
wide associations, meta-analysis and instrumental variables analysis. The
post-holder will also have the opportunity to lead projects, being first
author on relevant papers and presenting research findings at conferences.
The appointment will be full-time on Grade I or J (depending on
qualifications and level of experience) of the University's new grade
structure and is offered for 24 months. While funding for this post is
available for 24-months, there may be opportunities for outstanding
candidates to continue working in the Department beyond this time. The post
is ideally suited to someone with a PhD in medical statistics or genetic
epidemiology, although excellent MSc candidates will also be considered.
Grade : Research assistant/associate; single spline I or J (depending on
experience)
Salary : £29,853 to £33,600 depending upon background and previous
