Dear Ruth,
>I wonder if anyone out there can tell me whether Edward Heron-Allen
>(1861-1943) was at any time a member of the Golden Dawn? I'm off my
>usual patch of research here, so would be grateful for any information
>from those who are (much) better-informed than I am. EH-A was
>certainly around at the right time, knew the right sort of people and
>had relevant interests, but all I've turned up so far is that he
>belonged to the Society for Psychical Research.
I checked in:-
Darcy Kuntz, The Golden Dawn Sourcebook, Holmes Publishing Group 1996
He does not appear in the list of members given there. This publication
has the most comprehensive list of members of the Golden Dawn and it
offshoots that has been published. However, the lists only go up to
1910/1914 and some offshoots were active after that.
On a general level I am wary of ascribing too much significance to the
paper trail. There can be other vectors of influence, aside from who was
a member of which group. Informal connections can be more important.
With my best wishes
Ben
