You sound more than usually vexed, Adrian.
For my part I cannot see the additional valued offered by web-based
storage over a set of simple word processor and spreadsheet templates,
apart from the opportunities for security breaches, data corruption
and data loss.
On a different matter entirely, I was pleased to see that the
Government's immediate response to the poorly-prepared locum GP crisis
was to propose a Database.
Yesterday a patient told me of his frustration at trying to renew his
driving licence on-line. It took him two days, and conversations with
three helpdesk employees who were politely incredulous and unable to
help. Eventually he spoke to someone higher up the food chain, who
discovered the problem was that his DVLA records show his address as
Cross Hill Drive whereas the Post Office's postcode database shows it
as Crosshill Drive. (Or perhaps it was the other way round.)
Anyway I'm sure this sort of problem will never arise with the new
Locum GP Database. Patients may rest assured that even if their locum
GP should make an error, the Government will know where they live.
