Dear UKPN,
The start of 2010 brings the end to the 2007-2009 International Polar Year
scientific campaign. It was a very successful IPY and captured the attention
of the public around the globe. What better way to celebrate IPY than to
share your successes and highlights with others at the IPY OSLO Science
Conference being held June 6-12, 2010, in Norway?
The deadline for abstracts is fast approaching --- January 20, 2010.

I'm contacting all of you because I think you have something to share
through your involvement in IPY --- whether it be as a classroom
participating in a live event, reading online journals, viewing photos of
the polar regions, or sharing our field work with a teacher, researcher, or
students. You all have something to share with one another and with others
that may not have been as involved with during IPY.
If you'd like to participate (even a poster would be wonderful!), there is
an entire session dedicated to education and outreach abstracts at the
conference. Check out Theme 6
<http://www.ipy-osc.no/article/2009/1245943735.35>. Abstracts from
researchers and graduate students would be a bonus.
I would like to highlight Theme 6-3 (Adventures in the field: Impacts
of field programs for students, teachers, artists, writers and others)
as I am participating in it.

If you are interested in attending and you are teacher, there is an
education workshop that that is being held prior to the science conference.
If you submit an abstract to the science conference, then you can apply for
funding to attend both the education workshop and the science conference.
For more information about the workshop and the application, check out this
link here <http://www.ipy-osc.no/article/2010/1262810412.68>.
There is also support for graduate students to the conference. Please check
out this link for more information
<http://www.ipy-osc.no/article/2009/1257459266.45>.
Again, we encourage you to share your experiences with others ---especially
if you were involved in education and outreach activities during IPY. This
conference will be a great place to document all that IPY had to offer as
well as to celebrate all that we accomplished.
Best,
Allen Pope
