Call for papers

Special Issues of the Journal of Heritage Tourism on Tourism and Biodiversity and Heritage Dimensions of Tourism and Forestry.

The United Nations has declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity and 2011 the International Year of Forests. In order to contribute to these important events and examine the role that tourism plays with respect to biodiversity and forests the Journal of Heritage Tourism announces a call for papers for two specific special issues on Tourism and Biodiversity and Heritage Dimensions of Tourism and Forestry to be published in late 2010 and 2011 respectively.

The 2010 International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) is a year-long celebration of biological diversity and its value for life on Earth. The international year coincides with the date of the 2010 Biodiversity Target that was adopted at the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002.

The main goals of the International Year of Biodiversity are to:
• Enhance public awareness of the importance of conserving biodiversity and of the underlying threats to biodiversity;
• Raise awareness of the accomplishments to save biodiversity that have already been realized by communities and governments;
• Promote innovative solutions to reduce the threats to biodiversity;
• Encourage individuals, organizations and governments to take immediate steps to halt biodiversity loss; and
• Encourage dialog between stakeholders for the steps to be taken in the post-2010 period.

Biodiversity is clearly an important element of concepts of natural heritage but it is also significant in a cultural heritage context as well, ranging from the scale of cultural landscapes to the cultural importance of individual species. Papers are therefore invited that examine all aspects of tourism’s role with respect to biodiversity and the goals of the UN Year.

The Year 2011 was declared the International Year of Forests by the United Nations in 2006 in order to raise awareness and strengthen the sustainable forest management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests for the benefit of current and future generations. Again papers are invited that examine tourism’s role with respect to forests and the goals of the UN Year, with special emphasis being given to the cultural and natural heritage dimensions of forests.

The Journal of Heritage Tourism (JHT) is a peer-reviewed, international transdisciplinary journal focussed on issues of heritage and tourism published by Routledge / Taylor and Francis. All submissions should be made online at the Journal of Heritage Tourism Manuscript Central site http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cvp-jht noting that the submission is for the special issue on either biodiversity or heritage dimensions of tourism and forests. Manuscripts for the respective special issues must have been submitted via the Journal’s Manuscript Central Site by 30 June 2010 for the biodiversity issue and by 30 November 2010 for the forests issue. Because of production and reviewing constraints manuscripts received after this deadline cannot be guaranteed inclusion in any special issue. The Journal of Heritage Tourism instructions for authors is available at: http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/journal.asp?issn=1743-873X&linktype=44

For further information on this special issue, including feedback on any abstracts for potential consideration for either of the special issues please contact
