Hi
I am the education manager for the charity Practical Action and have something I'm sure your friend and others will be interested in which will cost virtually nothing and be a really fun activity. The Wind Power Challenge is an activity we have put together specifically for National Science and Engineering Week
In small groups students are asked to design a wind powered machine from simple equipment such as card, pencils ,string and sellotape which will raise a cup from the ground to table top height. The power is provided by a hair dryer or pupil puff!. The winning design is the one which lift the most weight (pennies). One teacher told me they were going to use it as an activity across the school during NSEW.
For all the resources needed for the challenge including pictures of wind turbines, teachers instruction sheet, video clips and certificates (coming soon!) go to the renewable energy section of our website www.practicalaction.org.uk/education/renewable-energy-resources

------
I am writing to ask a quick favour and to pick your brains. I am head of
Science at my school and I am trying to plan a week of fun Science talks,
activities and experiments for 'Science and Engineering Week', 15th - 19th
March. The school has 200 pupils and I need activities for a whole week for
every year group ages 4 - 11. Oh and we have a budget of £0!!! Just wondered
on the off chance if any of your companies/organisations you belong to
offered any sort of schools programmes, i.e. coming into primary schools to
run an experiment, give a talk etc. or if you knew of any contacts who may
offer this?
