Dialogic requires doubling and what is manifest is what is empirically
presented, which is to say already plural.
If a photo enters into a dialogue with a text it does so not as an
index, but rather as a series of statements. When people not trained in
art see my work they usually ask what's this, what's that and not as a
question but as an expression of interest or a statement. Those with
some familiarity ask if it is a sculpture, post Gilbert and George era
here, perhaps. Anyway a series of statements which have no wish to
index.
Hence, I don't really agree with the claims in the paper but for quite
concrete reasons. A lot of critical writings on photography do seem also
to confuse technique and mechanism. This is it.... hands too sore, must
go....
