I got through a bit of Liz Grosz's book today and it is worth reading,
given the discussion of creative space and the way she seems to make
Bergson and Deleuze more easy to understand. A sort of gentle
introduction to what can be very difficult readings. The other thing I
like is the readiness to which she admits it has taken her 20 years to
understand Deleuze. (About the same time I have been reading Deleuze so
am thankful a philosopher has yet again come to my aid. Although, we do
have a shared intellectual background.)
The other more interesting critique is her discussion of cyberspace and
virtual reality as a return, yet again, to a tired, worn out Kantian
moralism. It is as if McLuhan's Kantian moralist reading of the
mechanical bride is endlessly repeating itself in cyber space. Since Liz
Grosz has a seamless writing style it is like these critical words sort
of leak out unseen and like little bombs explode in your face. Kant's
moral face, which endlessly doubles itself into a defeated cyberspace
stupor.
anyways, worth reading. Chris Jones.
