We at Heriot-Watt are wildly behind the times and have nothing centrally in terms of mobile development. We are currently developing a redesign of the site and plan to incorporate a mobile style but have little knowledge in the sense of building applications.
Would be interesting to know how many universities went down the iPhone app route or equivalent, or run dedicated mobile sites with different/scaled down content?

Hi all,
I was the lead developer on a JISC-funded rapid innovation project called Mobile Campus Assistant. MCA recently finished and we are looking at strategies to continue developing the outputs of the project.
We wanted to make time and location sensitive information available to students via their mobile phones. For example, where is the nearest available PC? Where is the nearest wireless hotspot? Which library is now open?
We created a RESTful web application that produces HTML for mobile browsers, but also provides RDF and json that could be used by developers to create native applications based around data we are exposing. As part of the project we also created a demonstrator native Android application and I need to finish off a native iPhone application.
