Hi all
Some members of this list will be aware of UKOLN's annual Institutional
Web Management Workshop (IWMW). For those who don't this annual event has
been running for 14 years and is aimed at members of institutional Web
management teams and other with an interest in institutional use of Web
technologies.
The call for submissions (for plenary talks and workshop sessions) is now
open - see http://iwmw.ukoln.ac.uk/iwmw2010/call/
Mobile technologies is clearly relevant so I'd encourage you to submit
your ideas.
In addition, however, it occurs to me that it might be useful to use the
event as an opportunity to make use of mobile technologies, in order to
demonstrate how they can be used and not just talk about their potential.
Some ideas that occur to me:
O Use of Bluetooth to download the timetable of events
O Use of Bluetooth/QR codes for social networking (e.g. find people with
similar interests)
O Use of geo-location technologies for information about the venues,
accommodation, pubs, etc. (perhaps using Augmented Reality apps).
O Use of QR codes for information related to the talks.
Any other ideas for ways in which mobile technologies could be used at
events?
Anyone interested in using the technologies in such ways? This will require
planning - but it does strike me that there should be real benefits in
attempting this (and the participants are likely to be supportive of such
experimentation).
Thanks
Brian
